Unit 4

Easy E National Program

*There are many alternative energy strategies out there. The plan I'm about to share is targeted for middle class families living in a city where public transportation and local food markets are available.*

The Easy E National Program is presented to you as a  three step initiative which we will try to implement in every household in America.

Step #1- Eat Locally

Believe it or not the average american meal whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner travels between 1,500 and 2,500. This means that from the time it is first produced on the farm and the time it is being consumed on your table it has traveled across the country possibly the globe. Long-haul shipping takes a toll on the environment because of the green house emissions that are the result of all the travel. Eating locally may not always be a viable option but it definitely is worth it, plus the food is tastier and fresher.

Step #2- Drive Less

If public transportation is available TAKE IT! Driving less is something we can all do.  I mean who likes getting stuck in traffic anyways? You can even probably catch up on your reading or just relax and listen to music. Taking the more eco-friendly option such as biking and walking will not only benefit the environment but our health as well.

Step #3- Change your light bulbs

Change your light bulbs to more energy efficient ones. There are many designs out there and if your house is still operating with incandescent light bulbs than you must absolutely change them TODAY! Not only do newer light bulbs better for the environment but they also save you a lot of money. Many countries have already phased out the use of light bulbs that aren't energy efficient.
